Eosinophilic granuloma complex
Eosinophilic granuloma refers to a group of ulcerative skin conditions
which are characterized by infiltration of large numbers of eosinophils
(one type of white blood cell). There are three basic forms "rodent ulcers" (ulcers involving
the upper lip); eosinophilic plaques which are large ulcerated
areas on the under surface of the body often surrounded by reddened
itchy skin; and linear granuloma (raised crusty sores on the back
of the thigh region). All of these conditions are considered to be secondary to some
form of allergy however the underlying trigger may not be detectable.
Treatment is symptomatic using corticosteroids and antibiotics.
