FELINE DISEASES
Congenital vestibular syndrome
The vestibular system is responsible for balance. In a number of Siamese and Burmese cats a disorder has been reported where the kittens lose their sense of balance around 3-12 weeks old.
The signs of the condition include a head tilt, ataxia (incoordination) and circling. The clinical signs do not progress or resolve. A cause has yet not been established and no form of treatment has been effective yet.
No studies have been performed to prove the genetic basis of the problem but multiple cases have appeared within these breeds and therefore it is advisable not to breed with affected cats
