Haemorrhagic Gastroenteritis
Haemorrhagic Gastroenteritis (HGE), is a disease characterised
by the sudden onset of bloody vomiting and diarrhoea. Effected
dogs can become dehydrated very quickly and may even develop shock.
One common finding is concentration of the red blood cells within
the circulation. Dogs of all ages can be infected. The cause of HGE has not been identified however a bacteria Clostridium
perfrigens is suspected. Most dogs respond well to treatment with intravenous fluids (drip)
however it is not uncommon for effected dogs to have repeated
bouts throughout their life. Related sites |
