The Poodle is the world's oldest water retriever, circus performer and truffle hunter. Despite the Poodle being regarded as the national dog of France, the breed is in fact believed to have originated in Germany. It has subsequently gained universal acceptance as one of the world's most popular breeds of dog. Part of his popularity is no doubt due to the fact the the Poodle comes in three different sizes, and an almost unlimited variety of colours, so buyers can mix and match sizes and colourings to suit their own personal preferences.
The Miniature Poodle is th most popular of the three breeds. An outstanding show dog, he storms around the ring like a dog twice his size.
To aid his efficiency as a retriever of waterfowl, the Poodle's traditional coat trim was originally devised to aid his progress in the water and, at the same time, protect his vital organs and joints from the cold. Today his glamorous coat enhances him smart, stylish appearance, giving him an air of distinction and dignity. Both for appearance and hygeine purposes, he will need to be clipped every eight weeks, but the Miniature Poodle thoroughly enjoys his regular visits to the beauty parlour.
His height is 38 to 38 cm and he weighs 8 to 9 kg.
