Beauty, brains and bird sense are the outstanding qualities of this handsome black and tan Setter from Scotland. A large, heavy Setter designed to suit the rugged Scottish countryside, the Gordon Setter is a perfect one-man shooting dog. He is built on galloping lines, and has a thoroughbred appearance rather akin to that of a weight-carrying hunter.
Somewhat reserved with strangers, he is not the friend of every passerby but instead, lives solely for the pleasure of being near his owners. This almost fanatical devotion to his master, and the love of home and hearth, is one of the Gordon Setter's most endearing characteristics. His quiet dignity, unswerving fidelity, and gentleness with children are legendary.
In fact, he who acquires a Gordon Setter owns a rare combination: an aristocrat of ancient lineage and great beauty, a shooting companion of keen intelligence and inbred hunting ability, a loyal family guard and, as one authority puts it, "a most pettable dog!"
His height is approximately 62 to 66 cm, and he weighs 25 to 29 kg.
