Top Tips on Photographing Dogs

You can also get some tips on successful photography of cats, birds and fish.

1.

Try and photograph in a natural environment - on a walk or in the garden - when the dog is alert and interested in things around him.

2.

Use a background which contrasts against the colour of the dog.

Not like this!

3.

Use available light whenever possible - avoid flash as this can unsettle the dog and give the "red eye" effect.

4.

Stay calm and try not to excite the dog. Be patient!

5.

Try to fill the frame with the dog making it as big as possible.

6.

Concentrate on the eyes and the ears. Use a squeaky toy behind the camera to attract the dog's attention and make him prick up his ears.

Not like this!

7.

Take lots of shots. Expect one or two good ones, at best, from a dozen.
